Amazon Is Facing Another Antitrust Investigation By The European Commission

The European Commission has issued a Statement of Objection against Amazon (AMZN), due to its alleged infringement of undisclosed data of independent sellers. Amazon is presumed to have utilized this data to give preferential treatment to their own products compared to those listed by independent sellers on their platform.

This is not the first time Amazon is under criticism for its business practices violating European Union Antitrust law, as EU regulators already opened a formal antitrust investigation this year. However, it will be some time before a resolution or possible repercussion could be delivered, as the process has just begun.

Investor’s attention has already been on the issue, as President-Elect Joe Biden is also expected to limit the power of industry leaders by pursuing antitrust and/or regulatory action.
